Fulham were lucky not to be dragged in to a relegation scrap last season, winning only 1 out of their last 8 games. But the Cottagers got some good business done early on, with ‘keeper Maarten Stekelenburg and defender Fernando Amorebieta coming in. The impressive Sascha Riether has also re-joined the club after a loan spell last season. As if Dimitar Berbatov wasn’t lethargic enough, Adel Taarabt has come in on loan from QPR. The Bulgarian’s t-shirt last season of ‘keep calm and pass me the ball’ will be Martin Jol’s plan A this season, and when he’s having an off day, Fulham will probably lose.
Key Player: Dimitar Berbatov. Cool, superbly talented and a natural finisher. Berbatov is a real marmite player, being branded by some as lazy and uninterested. However, his 15 goals last season kept Fulham from being involved in the relegation scrap. His infamous ‘Keep calm and pass me the ball’ will ring true if Fulham want to finish safely again this year.
One to Watch: Alex Kacaniklic. The tricky Swede played outstandingly in his 20 appearances last season for Fulham, ending with 4 goals and 2 assists. Kacaniklic could inject the pace and delivery to supply Brian Ruiz and Dimitar Berbatov.
