Many Southampton fans will be relieved that the madness of Vincent Tan is making Cardiff the biggest laughing stock in the Premier League. However, the recent controversy with referee Mark Clattenburg has led to the Saints pushing Cardiff close for that unwanted title.
It was revealed that Southampton had complained to the Premier League about Mark Clattenburg’s conduct in the defeat against Everton. This complaint was laughable, and was rightly dismissed by the Professional Game Match Officials Ltd. Southampton had claimed that Clattenburg had “insulted” Captain Adam Lallana, by allegedly remarking to the skipper “You’re very different now you’ve played for England. You never used to be like this”. Southampton’s complaint about this prompted the club to received more negative press, adding to Dani Osvaldo’s suspension for his part in a touchline clash at Newcastle, Pochettino’s comments that Southampton are treated worse by referees because the players are too ‘young and handsome’, and the banning of photographers not long after Nicola Cortese took over as chairman. As always in a situation like this, the club received no sympathy online, with #ThingsThatUpsetAdamLallana trending on twitter.
Luckliy for Saints fans though, Vincent Tan has been complaining that David Marshall, the Cardiff Goalkeeper, has not scored enough goals and that the club down the road are languishing near the bottom of League Two, so they’re not the biggest laughing stock in Britain yet.
