Brendan Rodgers is at it again. For the second summer in a row Liverpool have sold their best player and replaced them with mediocrity. Danny Ings and Christian Benteke are not players to get a team in to the top four, whilst potentially Rodgers’ best signing, James Milner, is likely to get the Emre Can treatment and be restricted to playing at wing-back. The signing of Nathaniel Clyne for only £12.5m is an absolute bargain, and you would have to hope that he will be a greater success than his other ex-Southampton colleagues. October will be a defining month for Liverpool, as they face a Merseyside derby, Europa League rivals Tottenham and Southampton, and a trip to champions Chelsea. Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino will have to provide the ammo for £32m man Benteke, while Jordan Henderson faces the unenviable task of replacing club legend Steven Gerrard.
