Stoke have the potential to one of the teams of the season as their squad is shaping up to be really exciting. How far they have come is shown by their surprising attempt to bring Xherdan Shaqiri in from Inter. Winger Ibrahim Afellay has joined the Potters from Barcelona and Former Real Madrid striker Joselu has joined from Hannover. This will add further fire power to a strike force in which Mame Biram Diouf, Peter Crouch and Jon Walters all hit double figures in all competitions last term. Added to that, Bojan, who looked to have hit form and adapted to the Premier League, has recovered from the injury that has kept him out since January. Marco van Ginkel joins Afellay, Charlie Adam and Steven Ireland in providing the ammunition for the strikers, mainly through his impressive set piece delivery, but has a lot to live up to if he’s going to fill the boots of Steven N’Zonzi. Jack Butland will have to step up to replace Asmir Begovic, but Shay Given has been brought in to offer competition. Stoke face a tough opening to the season, starting against Liverpool and Tottenham, and visiting Arsenal at the beginning of September, so can really show that they can compete with the top sides this season.
